Blayne has extensive training in both Rolland Pedagogy and Suzuki Pedagogy. His early Rolland training came during his college years at Arizona State University, where he studied with Dr. Marla Mutschler, Paul Rolland’s research associate. Additionally, Blayne recently received his certification in Rolland pedagogy from the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society, and has become a presenter in that organization. During his graduate studies at the University of Oregon, he was fortunate to receive two years of Suzuki training from Shelley Rich. In his 20 years of teaching experience, he has developed an approach that is an extremely effective amalgam of these two pedagogical styles.

Blayne has held faculty positions at Oregon State University and Willamette University, as well as at community music schools in Oregon, Minnesota, and Washington.

Blayne’s students have won first prize in competitions, including the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside and SIPF Bach and Classical Festivals, have held principal positions in youth orchestras in Seattle, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Portland, Oregon, and have successfully auditioned into All-State and All-Northwest orchestras. Over the years, Blayne’s studio has included the children of professional musicians, including current and former members of the Seattle Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Spokane Symphony, as well as university music professors and school orchestra directors. Former students have gone on to study music at universities and conservatories throughout the US and the UK.
